Nico Rosberg has had a mixed first half of 2009 with the young German driver putting his Toyota powered Williams on top during most Friday free practice sessions, however in qualifying and race trim, the can just doesn’t seem to have the overall power needed to run at the front.
In the recent British grand Prix, Nico was a lot further up than normal due to some new developments on board the car for the team’s home race, an event that normally sees the Grove based squad struggling to some degree. Therefore, the added performance was a pleasing sign that things are on the up for the rest of the season...
“I'm pleased, yes. As a team this was our most horrible track in the past years. We were absolutely disastrous there as it was a pure aero track, with engine power and aero efficiency important. We brought an update to the car, and it really bought it forward. So I have to say a big compliment to the whole Williams team - the aero department included,” he told Autosport.

“It is nice to see that in the past years we have been dropping back, and this year we are outperforming teams like Ferrari in development. So that is really nice to see, especially with the budget that we have it is fantastic. It really represents a lot of efficiency and good management and everything. We are now fifth in the Constructors' Championship, beating McLaren, and it should put us in a good position to attack Ferrari who are still in front of us if we have some good races.” |
