Williams driver Nico Rosberg has admitted that if his Grove based team do not give him a car that will enable him finish consistently in a points scoring position in the upcoming 2009 Formula One championship season, then he may be forced to seriously reconsider his career opportunities.
After a very disappointing 2008 season, the German admitted that he was contractually forced to stay with Williams for the new season, however, that doesn’t mean he has to stay in 2010, and he won’t if things don’t change…
"It would be fantastic if the team could change their course,” he told the sports official website. “I am not asking for a world championship-winning car, just a car that gives me the opportunity to finish in the points consistently, and a couple of podiums would be the icing on the cake. The chances are there, for sure. Should 2009 not turn out as I hope it will, then naturally I have to rethink my position for 2010."
Nico’s Formula One career started strongly and after only a few races in the sport he was linked with offers from McLaren, an offer that returned in 07 when they were looking for a replacement for Fernando Alonso. However, he was forced to stay with Williams and despite a disappointing year, he is happy he was still able to let his talent shine through on the odd occasion….
"I am thankful still that on occasion my car was okay and I was able to show that I can still drive a race car, which is important as you need to keep your reputation. On these occasions I was able to put some highlights into my overcast season, which was nice, but in general it was quite disappointing. We simply were not fast enough."
That said however, Nico has not given up on the team, or his chances of winning the world crown….
“Definitely not. And I also haven’t given up on the team, not at all. I am still very motivated and it would be the greatest for me if I could help this team to some good success. Going back to the ‘glory days’ will be a bit difficult in the situation nowadays, but still to have some good success would be a very nice thing for me.” |
