Sato laughs at Barrichello’s claims of amatuer driving
When it looked as if all was set and done and that the finishing order in Sunday’s European Grand Prix was cared in stone, Takuma Sato risked his first ever podium finish in an attempt to go one better and stand on the second step instead of the third. The British American Racing driver lunged into the first ccorner as he tried to overtake the Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello but instead of moving up the order, the two cars collided and the Japanese driver lost part of his front wing and was forced to pit as a result. After dropping to fifth, Sato’s race came to an abrupt end with another Honda engine failure while Barrichello went on to finish second. The Brazilian wasn’t impressed with Taku’s move, labelling it as ‘amateurish’ in the post race press conference, stating that had the BAR bided his time, he would have taken the position anyway… “I am sorry to say it but I think it was a bit too amateur from Sato to do that because he wasn’t in a position to actually try and overtake. He came completely sideways and luckily, I saw the nose coming and I just took avoiding action and I was lucky that nothing else broke on my car,” Rubens said. “He could have eventually overtaken me because he was fast enough but he didn’t need to be that lap. He wasn’t in contention on that lap.” Sato has since laughed off Rubens comments claiming he was completely in control the entire time….. "I had to laugh when I heard him say that," said Sato. "What he said was totally untrue. He never looked at the replay. I was totally in control. He just didn't see it. I had fresh tyres, I had a lot of grip and the car was so nice. I was totally in control. He never looked up. He didn't see in his mirrors. It was just an unlucky situation. In this business you have to be ambitious."
