It appears as if Takuma Sato has finally given up on his dream of returning to the pinnacle of Motorsports with an announcement today that he will be taking part in the 2010 IZOD Indycar Series, the American based premier open-wheel racing series.
The Japanese driver, who was hoping to return to a race seat in Formula One will race with the respected Indianapolis-based team KV Racing Technology, headed by champion driver Jimmy Vasser instead. After missing out on racing in 2009, Taku is now motivated and ready to be fighting at the front of the field.
“This is a very exciting time for me and all my supporters. I have really missed racing last year and can’t wait to get started in this new challenge with such a great team,” he said. “To me, KV Racing is a team with massive potential and great team spirit. With such a great champion as Jimmy leading the team, I am really confident that we will soon be a strong combination.”
“I am also really motivated by the chance to be fighting at the front of the field, something I have missed in recent seasons. I want to thank sincerely everyone who has continued to support me through difficult times and look forward to enjoying success together very soon.”
The 2010 schedule features 17 races, 13 in the United States as well as two races in Canada and one each in Japan and Brazil. The Japanese event will take place at Twin Ring Motegi on 19th September. The series also includes the world-famous Indy 500, billed as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and is one of the oldest motorsport events, often considered as one of the three most significant motor racing events in the world. |
