After running with Petronas badged Ferrari engines for the past seven years it appears as if the Swiss based Sauber team could be looking for another supplier when their current contract with the Italian champions comes to an end at the close of the 2005 Formula One championship season.
Reports emerging from Italy suggest that Ferrari may wish to end their current deal, perhaps swayed by the recent controversy involving Sauber’s part in the other teams deciding to limit testing and sign on for a control tyre, initial discussions at the season closing Brazilian Grand Prix devoid of any input from the world champions. Teams have held talks since then, a meeting Ferrari was invited to but failed to attend due to other prior commitments.
The again, if the reports are true, it could be that Sauber could be the ones opting to conclude the deal and go their separate way, especially after their decision to switch from Bridgestone to Michelin rubber for the 2005 season and beyond.
