Schumacher to stay with Ferrari

On Sunday afternoon, in the press conference at Monza, Jean Todt, Chief executive of Ferrari S.p.a. participated in a meeting with the press at the 2006 Ferrari World Finals, the Frenchman drawing attention to how the World Finals represented…

“A special weekend for clients, who are our representatives in the world and who take the company's patrimony around the world. During the year it is Formula 1 that enjoys high visibility and so we would like to dedicate this event to our clients and celebrate with them."

Todt touched on the themes mentioned during the press conference, underlining how, for Ferrari, races are not only represented by Formula 1 but also by the activities of the clients, who are an important foundation for the company. The chief executive especially highlighted the year's new projects that included the special FXX programme, the Ferrari single make championship, the Historic Challenge, the F1 Clienti and the GT competitions.

It was also announced that Michael Schumacher will continue to work for the Scuderia next season, despite officially retiring from Formula One racing after the Brazilian Grand Prix a week ago, the seven time world champion taking on a mentor role of sorts and assistant to Todt in regard to the selection of future up and coming young racing talent.

"Michael has always been interested in following young drivers. I have one of them next to me: I remember Michael talking to me about Felipe when he still was in lesser series,” Todt explained. "He also talked to me about Kimi before he entered F1, so he has a unique eye and it will be important to allow us to make choices on the drivers of the future and also to follow the current drivers.”

“Michael is one of the greatest drivers in the history of motor racing. He has a unique knowledge of racing, so we'll try to take advantage of his knowledge in the best way to take choices for the team at a sporting and technical level. He will be very close to us bute he won't have any particular obligation to be present either in the factory or at the races or at private tests. He will be an indispensable interface in the process of taking decisions for the future of Ferrari's sporting arm. Finally, as he's done up to now, he will make his contribution on the definition of the road cars."
