Smaller teams will survive
Even though several sectors of the media are screaming crisis after the announcement that Ford will not be continuing with the Jaguar Racing team next season, Max Mosley is confident that the smaller teams, Minardi and Jordan, will weather the storm and be back to fight it out in 2005. Ford supply Cosworth engines to Minardi and Jordan and with that division also up for sale, there could be very serious consequences for the small teams in F1 if a buyer isn’t found. But, while Mosley has faith that someone will not only take over Jaguar, and a solution will be found to keep Minardi and Jordan in competition, he also knows it may not come to pass. "What I think is the most likely scenario is that someone will buy Jaguar, Minardi will keep on going, like they always have, and Jordan will find a solution in one way or another,” he said. “We will have the same 20 cars next year. I think that's the most likely - I don't say it will happen." The technical working group is currently working with the FIA on ways to cut costs to help the smaller teams and significant rule changes are set to be introduced in the very near future and these changes may well lead to even more teams on the 2006 grid….. "I think we might see at least one maybe two new teams," said Mosley. So all is not as bleak as some may have us believe.
