Scott Speed and Colin Fleming made the most of a weekend off from racing in Europe, travelling to the remarkable new Shanghai Circuit in China as part of the Formula 1 race weekend, on the series’ first-ever visit to the emerging Chinese market.
In what could only be described as the thrill of a lifetime, the two Americans proved they were up to the task, racing off to a 1-2 victory on a track that neither had even seen before the weekend began.
The two young Americans were unfazed by the race day morning crowd of more than 100,000 enthusiastic race fans as they put their competitive stamp on the Asian Formula Renault Challenge in the same fashion as they have shown in Europe, hogging the best property on the podium once again.
The win is Speed’s 12th of the year in Formula Renault competition.
"It was a lot of fun to start right before a Formula 1 Grand Prix and in front of more than 100,000 Motorsports supporters here in China,” said Speed. This was a great opportunity for us, and to take the win was very emotional!"
Speed and Fleming will return to battle in Europe to settle the score between the two friends, roommates, and competitors, as there are just two rounds remaining in the Formula Renault German Championship, as Speed holds onto a narrow lead in the points over Fleming.
