Spyker joins in bid for MidlandF1

After reports that the sale of the MidlandF1 team should go through before the British Grand Prix several months ago, it appears as if the deal to sell the Silverstone based squad to a Dutch consortium is back in the spotlight with speculation regarding the addition of Dutch sports car maker, Spyker, adding their weight to the negotiations.

There was confirmation of sorts in regard to this new move with a pres statement being issued claiming that the outcome of these negotiations is still dependant on a number of conditions, however they didn’t elaborate on what these were. Spyker did confirm however that if the deal did go ahead they would consider a share issue in order to help finance the transaction in part and that the Dutch consortium, headed by Lost Boys Michel Mol is interested in purchasing a substantial amount.

"At the appropriate time further announcements will be made,” Spyker concluded. “In any event the acquisition will be subject to Spyker Shareholders' and Supervisory Board approval."

Lost Boys are a sponsor of current racer Christijan Albers, so it basically go without saying that the Dutchman would remain with the team for 2007, when they are expected to run Cosworth V8’s such as those currently powering the Williams FW28, while Williams take over the customer supply of Toyota engines.
