In a post race investigation stewards at the Singapore Grand Prix decided that the accident that took out both the BMW Sauber of Nick Heidfeld and the Force India of Adrian Sutil was indeed Sutil’s fault and fined him a total of $20,000 as a result.
On lap 19 of the 61 lap event, Sutil was trying to make a move on the Toro Rosso of Jaime Alguersuari when he spun his Force India. When attempting to right the car and get back into the action, he was deemed to have moved into the path of the oncoming BMW, causing both men to retire from F1’s only night event.
"Nick came around the corner and hit my front wing as I was stuck in the corner. I didn't see him coming as I was on the move already and couldn't react to it, but I'm sorry for it. It was a race incident," Sutil said after the race.
Meanwhile, this was Heidfeld’s first race retirement since the 2007 USGP. |
