Teams aim to rid qualifying of burn off laps

Formula One team bosses plan to meet at the Monza circuit later today in order to discuss the abolishment of the fuel burn laps in the final qualifying session. While they won’t be able to change the qualifying particulars for the remainder of the current season, the plan is to rid them for the 2008 Championship season.

Speaking on the team’s official website, Renault’s Pat Symonds confirmed the meeting, claiming that in his opinion the ‘burn off was no good and needed to be removed from the session. The team’s technical director Bob Bell agreed with his colleague saying it wasn’t very eco friendly….

"I think we have to find a way to get rid of fuel burning laps, which is a completely strange thing to do anyway given we're all becoming eco friendly."
