Ferrari have made certain allegations since the European Grand Prix that Sunday afternoon’s race had been manipulated when stewards took too long to punish Lewis Hamilton for overtaking the safety car, a move that allowed the McLaren driver to put in several fast laps to build up a gap and then take his penalty and return to the track still in second place.
However, what is upsetting Ferrari is the fact that Hamilton did the wrong thing and still stayed second while their driver, Fernando Alonso, did the right thing, stayed behind the safety car as he was meant to and ended up finishing ninth (before post race penalties were applied)
Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner was asked if he believed Ferrari’s concern about ‘race fixing’ and he believes that it wasn’t the case at all....
"No, I don't think so. I think the safety car rules have not played out for Ferrari, and McLaren was perhaps a bit naughty with the way it worked it, but it got a penalty for that,” he told Autosport. “Arguably it didn't cost them, but that's just the way it worked out. I don't think it was manipulated. The FIA just need to look at the safety car rules in the future." |
