Amid all the calls of a boring season looming due to the fact that last weekend’s opening round in Bahrain being a snooze fest as drivers contested their first race, apart from Barrichello and Schumacher, without refuelling, four time world champion Alain Prost, who thrived under the same conditions, believes it is simply a matter of time before modern day drivers not only get used to the new way, but actually like it more.
"These drivers have never experienced this before so they are a bit confused by everything, and so are the teams. They have to get used to it and it will be better,” the fifty five year old Frenchman said. “They have got used to a sprint, in free practice, qualifying, race.”
“And having 60 kilos of fuel or 10 kilos makes no difference. But when you start a race with 160 kilos you have to think differently, and they are not used to that. But after a few races I am sure the good drivers, the top drivers, will like it."
One thing that must be remembered however, is that when Prost was racing, the cars were a totally different machine, definitely a lot more capable of overtaking than the contenders modern day drivers on modern day tracks, such as Bahrain, have to deal with. |
