Time is valuable says Vettel

Even though Mark Webber is vowing to return to the cockpit of his new Red Bull in February after breaking his leg on the weekend, the Aussie driver only missing two days worth of scheduled testing next month, his new teammate Sebastian Vettel believes that Mark’s input into the new car will be sorely missed…..

“We will proceed as usual with testing and for sure he will be missed but it is more important that he is back next year to get the new car running,” Vettel told the sports official website. “We have to be even more focused down in Jerez at our next test and can’t afford to make any mistakes, as time is valuable.”

Next season will see several new changes to the car that will make a heavy impact to the overall competition such as KERS, engine life being extended and the return to slick tyres, but, according to Vettel, out of all the changes being introduced, KERS is going to be the most challenging, and not just for Red Bull….

“Well, we know pretty well by now how the slick tyres will work and I trust that the engineers know very well how to work with aerodynamics, as there will be a significant change in aerodynamics next season. KERS will be the biggest challenge - but not only for us.”

During the recent test, Seb was at the top of the timesheets ahead of the likes of McLaren Ferrari and BMW, but as Vettel admitted, the only new aspect of the car was the slick Bridgestone rubber….

“Only the tyres(were new)," he explained. “You saw teams with new front and rear wings similar to next year’s and some were already running KERS, playing around with the basics. We have a good idea of the ‘09 car and we are going about things in the smartest way we can.”
