Four jumbo jets delivered a field of 20 Formula One cars headed for next weekend’s Formula 1 Foster’s Australian Grand Prix this morning, the planes from Europe arriving at Avalon Airport near Geelong mid morning local time, with cars then being organized for transport to Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix circuit.
The first cars to arrive, at 7.30am, included the Ferraris of seven time world champion Michael Schumacher and his Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello, plus the Minardi’s of Australian Paul Stoddart’s F1 team.
One of the Minardi team’s new drivers, Dutchman Christijan Albers, had already arrived in Melbourne and found time to have a kick-to kick with new Hawks captain Richard Vandenberg at Glenferrie on Friday.
