The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team completed a very productive third day of winter testing at Barcelona, Spain on Friday when neither car experienced any delays, meaning that both drivers could conduct a full program of set-up work and tyre development for 2005.
Giancarlo Fisichella completed 102 laps, and continued his smooth introduction to the team. Today was his final running day of the week, and afterwards, Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk stated that he was more than happy with the way the Italian’s test concluded.
"Everything went very well for Giancarlo this week and after problems on the first morning, he has had a busy, productive test,” he said. “He has brought lots of fresh ideas with him, and has made a very encouraging start to the winter. Indeed, he and Franck complement each other well in their feedback and this factor will help us make good progress during our pre-Christmas test program with these two drivers."
Meanwhile, test driver Franck Montagny spent the day working towards 2005, concentrating on set-up work plus electronic and tyre development. On Saturday he will be the team's sole representative during a wet tyre test for Michelin.
"My running this week has been fully focused on 2005, with the car set-up, electronics and tyres,” he said after the test. “We didn't do many laps on the second day as we were focusing on the electronics, but otherwise, I think we have made some good steps forward in our understanding of the tyres and set-up for next year. There is lots of data to analyze, and it was a good beginning to our 2005 season."
