While most of the 800 strong Toyota Formula One team, as well as many F1 insiders who took John Howett at his word, were taken by surprise when the Cologne based squad announced that they were dropping out of the pinnacle of Motorsports with immediate effect, one of their long term drivers, Jarno Trulli, has revealed that he was not.
Speaking to the Italian press, Trulli revealed that although saddened by the Japanese engine giant’s decision, he was not surprised at all when the news was delivered....
"This decision doesn't surprise me even though this doesn't sadden me any less especially for the people in the team with whom I've had a fine relationship and with whom I hope to be able to work again in the future," he was quoted as saying in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
It was revealed several weeks before the official decision that Trulli and his teammate Timo Glock would more than likely not be resigned for 2010 and while many thought this simply signalled the team wanting to start the new season with a fresh driver line up, it was in fact a sign that they would not be contesting the championship themselves.
However, Trulli is not too concerned about where he may end up next year with rumours linking the Italian to one of the seats at the new Lotus F1 team, but a decision will not be made until later this month.
"There are some (F1) offers I'm evaluating, but I'll decide after 22 November, when the Toyota Motor Festival in Fuji ends." |
