Felipe Massa was on top of the timesheets for the second day running here at the Valencia circuit in Spain, the Brazilian driver completing a whopping 124 laps on his way to a best time of 1:11.722, almost three tenths faster than his nearest rival, BMW Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi.
Massa continued with development work on the new car, concentrating mainly on finding the best set up under various conditions of how the car was used and on analysing tyre behaviour.
It was another positive day of testing for BMW Sauber as Kamui familiarised himself with the car and the track before continuing with some basic set-up work and ran the car on different fuel levels. The car was reliable, which enabled them to complete their program as scheduled.
Lewis Hamilton returned to the cockpit for the first time since the end of the 2009 season, completing 108 laps of the Ricardo Tormo circuit during a very busy and productive day of testing in the newly launched MP4-25. His McLaren team continued with the program started by Gary Paffett yesterday, focusing on car set-up and understanding the difference in balance caused by the heavier fuel-loads and narrower 2010-spec front tyres. Lewis declared himself happy with the car’s performance and reliability as he set the third quickest time of the day.
Fourth quickest was the Renault of Robert Kubica with Nico Rosberg fifth for Mercedes, Barrichello sixth for Williams and Sebastien Buemi seventh for Scuderia Toro Rosso. Testing continues here tomorrow.
