After Mike Gascoyne confirmed that he is looking to put Malaysian racer Fairuz Fauzy into a test driver role for the new Lotus F1 team in 2010, the main reason being that he didn’t want him to crash and burn due to a lack of experience in the pinnacle of Motorsport, it has been revealed that Gascoyne has met with former champion in the pinnacle of Motorsport, Jacques Villeneuve.
Gascoyne has admitted that he is looking at hiring experienced drivers for the team’s first season and Villeneuve is very altered that his name has been mentioned in connection with the Malaysian based squad. However, that said, the French/Canadian confirmed that they have not yet reached the negotiation stage in regard to a 2010 drive.
“I was happy to talk to Mike and I found an open mind on his side,” Villeneuve told Rue Frontenac, “For sure it was like sweet music to my ears when he said to me he was firstly looking for experienced drivers. It was flattering to know that he mentioned me and that he publicly said that we talked together. We are not yet to the point to talk about the details of a possible association but if he says things in public then now I know there is some progress to be made on this project.”
Villeneuve has also been linked to a possible drive with the USGP team. |
