We are looking at all the American drivers

Later today the official announcement regarding the USF1 venture will be made on Speed TV where Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson will reveal their plans to enter an American made team onto the 2010 Formula One grid.

One of the burning questions regarding this situation is “who will be driving?” with certain sections of the media suggesting several possibilities in order to fit in with the teams made in America theme. While all efforts are focussed on hiring American drivers, Peter Windsor explained to us that there may only be one American driver in the car for their debut season…..

“We are going to try and have American drivers in the car,” he said. “Year one we may have one experienced non American driver but certainly have at least one American driver in the car, but almost certainly in year two we will have two American drivers.”

According to Windsor, it is only logical that an American team employ American drivers and he is actually very surprised that other national teams on the grid, such as F1’s Indian team, Force India, are not running with their national drivers, such as Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan.

One name that has been on many lips regarding a possible drive is none other than IndyCar racer and America’s pin up racing girl, Danica Patrick with some reports wrongly suggesting that she has been spoken to about a drive. Since then Danica has publically stated that she has no interest in racing in Formula One, stopping any possible proposal in its tracks.

As peter Windsor explained, they are not singling out any one particular driver at this stage, instead, they are looking at all the possibilities…

“Well we have never spoken to Danica Patrick and we have never even really said that we are specifically interested in her all we have ever said to anybody is that we are looking at all the American drivers out there. Some journalists have said ‘Are you interested in Scott Speed or Danica’ and all we have said is that we are looking at all the American drivers. We haven’t made any further comment about that and if Danica wants to bow herself out by saying she’s not interested that’s fine with me.”
