Although there is no intention of backing either one of their drivers over the other, McLaren fully believe that Lewis Hamilton’s win in the recent Belgian Grand Prix will give the Woking based squad the extra boost they need to take the championship crown this year.
The team went on the traditional mid season break a little downbeat after a tough Hungarian Grand Prix and they were expecting a similar battle against red Bull and Ferrari at Spa. However, the other two teams didn’t appear to have the same edge as normal, whether or not that was down to a few adjustments ahead of the FIA’s clampdown on the flexi wing saga or not, one will never know, but it certainly boosted McLaren’s morale and chances...
"We have some momentum back. We knew we had to come here and try for a win. We delivered that. And we are going to go to Monza now and see what we can do there,” Martin Whitmarsh said. "Everyone keeps asking how important each race is."
