Despite the huge success of the first night race in Formula One history, Australian officials are still refusing to consent to the possibility of hosting a similar event, especially not in the next six years. Singapore has been hailed as the best spectacle ever seen with drivers and fans having nothing but praise for the organizers of the event and now Bernie Ecclestone is urging other South pacific nations to follow suit.
However, Australian Grand Prix CEO Drew Ward, who was in Singapore to witness all its glory last weekend and thoroughly impressed by what he saw, is adamant that the best Australia will do is the already in place commitment to a twilight event, at least until 2015....
"I think there's a lot of people who will be looking at Singapore's bold adventure with some interest," he told the Australian Press. "But our current contract runs through to 2015 and it has been ruled out in the present circumstances. In the future, who knows? We've ruled out racing at night, but we're racing next year into the twilight." |
