Webber calls for improvements

Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber is far from happy with the downward performance of his team, the situation coming to a head in the recent European Grand prix when the Toro Rosso team managed to put both drivers into the top ten shootout and score points with Vettel, while neither Red Bull driver made it past Q2 or into the points on race day.

This is the fourth race in a row that the Milton Keynes based squad have failed to finish in the top eight and while a lot has been said about the difference in engine power with Renault stopping development as ordered by the FIA while others are being accused of continuing in other areas, Webber is insisting they resolve their current problems as it is more than just the engine.

"Well, it is not just the engine, no,” he told Autosport. “This is a vicious industry, and when you get nailed you can get nailed pretty quick. We are in that situation; we have a bit of a hole in the boat at the moment. We started the season off really well, getting lots of points and being bloody reliable and things were going our way.”

“Then, it all started at the Hockenheim test and we have struggled since then – we haven't been competitive in any session, anywhere or any race. We are on the limit in qualifying to get through to Q3, and with a tenth we could have gone through, but we would still have got smashed in the race. Other people must be putting some performance on their cars or we are doing something with our cars that we don't quite understand."

Therefore, a major debriefing has been underway since they returned from Valencia and hopefully there will be some answers before the next round in Belgium.
