Current championship leader and Belgium Grand Prix winner, Lewis Hamilton, believes that his main rival for this year’s crown is Red Bull racing’s Mark Webber.
At the beginning of the season it was thought that Webber’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel, would be the man to beat, however over the course of the last 13 races, the young German has displayed that he is suffering, more than likely from lack of experience, and can’t quite get the job done.
He has made a series of unnecessary mistakes, the latest being his collision with Jenson Button in Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix for which he was given a drive through penalty, and therefore, despite the fact that he possibly ahs the fastest car on the gird, he won’t be in the hunt for glory when it really comes down to it at the end of the season.
“Vettel’s got the car. There are no doubts about that. He’s got very likely the fastest car. And so there’s no reason for him not to be up the front, but he’s still learning and there’s still a lot to learn. Sebastian has got some serious pace and as he learns he will get stronger and stronger,” Lewis said.
“Mark’s got the experience and it’s showing. I think experience counts for a lot, a huge amount. The older I get, the more I understand that that’s the case. Mark is a very mature man and that definitely helps. He’s been here a lot longer than myself and Sebastian – and it’s showing in his team.”
That said however, Lewis himself was in the title fight all the way to the last race in his rookie season in the F1 world championship when he had even less experience than Vettel has now. |
