While the 2007 silly season begins to draw to a close as various teams confirm their driver up’s for next year, there are two drivers who appear to be on the outs with their respective teams and yet they have very few options left elsewhere on the grid. Even though Renault are yet to confirm their 2008 line up, it is almost certain that Giancarlo Fisichella won’t be part of it, while over at Toyota, Ralf Schumacher’s chances of retaining his ride get slimmer and slimmer with each passing day.
Because of the uncertainty about the future of the McLaren duo, Renault racers have been made to wait, with Briatore holing to get Alonso to return to the fold, however Briatore knows what to do in case he does not secure the Spaniard and has already set his mind on Kovalainen and Piquet instead. While Kovalainen scored 16 points from the last 7 races, Fisi has only managed 4 and Briatore’s quote after the race tells you what is going to happen…
"It was a very good performance from Heikki, and a shame for Fisi, because the car was good today."
In other words Fisichella is out of a ride, no matter what and is hopefully looking for a new job, but in all honesty, there is not much left out there….
Meanwhile, over at Toyota the situation is not quite so clear with our spies in Turkey revealing that Tadashi Yamashima, the new strong man in the team, is not a great fan of Ralf Schumacher. Patrick Head has supported his former driver by However, despite this advice, there are drivers like Glock, Sutil and Liuzzi on the Toyota wish list. As the Cologne based team did not take the option on Ralf Schumacher it has become quite clear that the German will be offered much less money for a drive, if he should stay.
Like Fisi, there are very few, if any options available for Ralf if his contract is not renewed. |
