As reported yesterday, the British American Racing team have halted plans for their third driver Anthony Davidson to test for the BMW WilliamsF1 team in Jerez next week, the Brackley based squad explaining that the young Brit is one of their most valuable assets and they are not prepared to risk the team’s future.
"It is for this reason that a great deal has been invested in him over the years and whilst we are enormously keen for him to gain F1 race experience and further his career, we clearly cannot compromise the future of BAR,”technical director Geoff Willis explained.
The problem is that Williams don’t want conditions attached to the deal where BAR want the driver returned at the end of 2005, more than likely to replace the Williams bound Jenson Button.
"In that regard, we felt that we had reached a very good agreement with Williams whereby he could drive in 2005, but could be repatriated to BAR under certain specific circumstances for 2006. Williams have insisted on an unconditional arrangement which, unfortunately, is untenable for the team," Willis added.
