Zanardi to make F1 return

According to reports in the German press, former CART champion, F1 racer and current racer for BMW in the WTCC, Alex Zanardi, will climb back into the cockpit of a Formula One contender, the first time since leaving the series at the end of 1999, two years before he lost both legs in a ChampCar accident at German’s Lausitzring circuit.

Since his accident, Zanardi has captured hearts worldwide with his determination to get through it and was soon walking with prosthetic legs. His next step was returning to the circuit where he almost lost his life and complete the final laps of the race he was contesting at the time. The car was adapted to accommodate his injuries, just like his current BMW 320i that saw him claim victory in Turkey recently was and the 2006 BMW F1 contender will also be adapted to suit.

Zanardi’s F1 run is scheduled for November 26 at the BMW World finals at the Valencia circuit in Spain.
